Mario, thanks so much for this drill! I have struggled with my hands being behind the shaft at impact and this should really help me get in the correct position.

Mario,
I'm a thin but average height male, with a moderate swing speed. I'm often frustrated by shots that are online, but fall
frequently just short of green or target. I think it's something happening in the impact zone, that somehow "increases" loft at impact...making my 5 iron a 6 or worse! While video taping myself, my left wrist "appears" flat (at least )..... But I am typically a sweeper of the golf ball and barely take divots on mid irons ( I rely on hybrids for longer irons). Can pivoting or pressing forward to "activate" my backswing help to square and deloft club at impact? Or is this a death move ? I'm just not hitting my irons as far " consistently"... I also switch to a much lighter steel shat, projectx95 to generate more swing speed. I think your video will help, but w/o "seeing" my swing what could the problem possibly be?

Mario,
You are the truth! I've used ALL your videos to make real and apparently consistent improvement in my golf game. Now on the verge of FINALLY breaking 80! You've (at least for me) eliminated all the "mystery" that once surrounded the "golf swing". I've always known I was capable of playing good golf, but "little" inconsistencies" have always thwarted my lasting improvement... It seems it may have been the manner in which things were explained. Not to diminish any of my past personal instructors, but I've gotten more out of your 1-2 minute videos, than some of my actual instructions... (Maybe that is an indictment of past instructions.... Lol) but seriously, I'm traveling to Doral for a "annual" tune up and would like personal instruction from you!

What to do? At impact i have a tendency to get my hips open which opens the club face and I slice or push the ball to the right. Any tips or drills I can do
Thank you Rob

You could be pivoting on your back leg. You should try a slow motion downswing to make sure you are shifting your weight properly. Square the face by finishing your swing!

Your hips should be open at impact but as Mario said your weight needs to be forward

I tried this drill today with a box from my local pro shop. when i hit the box, a squirrel came running out. does that mean that i'm hitting the box properly? i think this is a good drill - but don't want to hurt squirrels.

So what do you do if the face is arriving at the box a bit open, due to the forward slant of the club? Do you rotate the head more closed at address?

I would practice getting the tow to the fox before the heel. Do it slowly to create a feel!

I have been coming into the ball at different angles , so it looks like this could help, also my balance has been an issue.

Mario,

Do you consciously let the club fall from the top of the back swing? I think there are two ways how people hit the ball. The first one would be to hit the ball by intentionally bashing the ball like baseball. The second one would be to let the club drop from the top of the back swing and let the centrifugal force from the movement of the body initiate the down swing. Thanks don't hit your friend.

How do you create a quality divot. My irons just scrape the grass.
Happy fourth.

very nice visual. Easy to remember. One possible problem. With the box being so long it would be difficult to move it straight down the line even if the impact position is correct.

yeah, especially since the club is moving to the left after impact

Yes the club is moving eft but this is a drill that will also create extension through impact.

Hey Mario: How can I learn to hit down on the golf ball? I have developed a bad habit of trying to lift the ball with my shoulders and not the club. I don't need to describe the results to you........Pete from Annapolis

Use a hammer. Keep your wrists oily. Relax your arm. A good visual image is the whack-a-mole game.
